(BROOME COUNTY, NY) – Bring your fishing pole and rent a boat for free. That’s the deal at Broome County Parks this weekend, as part of New York State’s Free Fishing Weekend (June 29-30). Visitors to Nathaniel Cole Park, Dorchester Park, or Greenwood Park with their own fishing pole can enjoy a free hour-long boat rental. Rowboats, canoes, and paddle boats will be available as part of this deal on Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30.
New York State has four free fishing events each year, allowing participants to fish without a license to encourage people to try the sport. All other freshwater fishing regulations remain in effect. Visitors to county parks this weekend will still need to put down the standard boat deposit; after the first hour, regular hourly rental rates will apply. Fishing from the shore of any park waterway is also permitted.
