County Executive Jason Garnar Delivers 2021 State of the County Address

(BINGHAMTON, NY) Broome County Executive Jason Garnar delivered his 2021 State of the County address tonight at the Broome County Legislature’s Meeting. 

“This year as we have worked through and fought COVID-19 Broome County has faced challenges unlike ever before. Our county departments stepped up to not only continue to provide critical services to Broome County residents, but also manage the pandemic and provide new resources for residents,” said County Executive Garnar. “Now we have hope as we look to the future. Exciting new projects are coming to Broome County and things are looking up for the economy. We are going to come out of this stronger with great new partnerships and resources to help our community. 

Highlights of Garnar’s address included:

  • Recognition of County Government’s Role in Responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic 
    • The Broome County Health Department, Office of Emergency Services, Division of Security, Office for Aging, Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services, among many others stepped up to respond to the pandemic, find creative ways to provide services, and keep Broome County residents safe.  
  • Local Economy Back on the Rise & Looking to the Future
    • After a financially difficult year, the local economy is starting to turn around. Sales tax is coming back, NYS funding is coming in and thanks to previously conservative budgets the county’s finances are in good shape. Exciting new projects are coming to Broome County in the next few years. 

This was County Executive Garnar’s fifth State of the County address as Broome County Executive. This year, he and his staff will be taking the State of the County virtually on the road to municipalities in Broome County. The full schedule will be released soon.
