Alcohol Server Training Programs

The Broome County STOP-DWI Program supports the “TIPS” (Training for Intervention Procedures) alcohol server training awareness program for area restaurants, hotels, bars, and nightclubs.  The “TIPS” Program’s goal is to empower participants to follow acceptable standards of practice for serving alcoholic beverages. The program is New York State TIPS certified.

There are numerous benefits for establishments having their servers attend the “TIPS”

Training Program:     

  • Helps to reduce incidences of driving while intoxicated (DWI)
  • Heightens awareness, skills, and professionalism of the servers
  • Enhances the community standing of the business establishment
  • Other possible benefits include: insurance discounts, regulatory compliance, and legal protection (in the form of “TIPS” providing a “reasonable efforts defense”).

The Broome County STOP-DWI Program supports ServSafe Alcohol Advantage.  ServSafe Alcohol Advantage is a training program developed by the National Restaurant Association and experts who have direct experience with the risks involved in serving alcohol.  ServSafe alcohol server training awareness program for area restaurants, hotels, bars, and nightclubs.

Training Program:

It is developed by the National Restaurant Association and experts who have direct experience with the risks involved in serving alcohol.  Their materials help define responsible alcohol service best practives, as they involve specialists in regulatory agencies, law insurance, medicine, law enforcement, resturants and academia.  Their training and exams are available online and in a classroom.  Courses are in English and Spanish.
