Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and Broome County Director of Real Property Michael Decker are encouraging eligible residents to apply for the New York State Homeowner Assistance Fund (NYS HAF). The online application portal opened Monday and is expected to receive more applications than will ultimately be able to be funded. Application submission does not guarantee an award and applications will be processed in the order in which they were received.
The $539 million NYS HAF is a federally funded program dedicated to assisting homeowners who are at risk of default, foreclosure, or displacement as result of a financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible uses for funds awarded to homeowners include monthly mortgage payments including taxes, principal, and interest; condominium association fees; HOA and cooperative maintenance fees; homeowner’s hazard, flood and/or mortgage insurance; delinquent property taxes and more.
The application guide can be found here; for additional information on this program, click here.
