(BROOME COUNTY, NY) The summer roadwork season is officially underway in Broome County, and this year brings a record amount of improvements to County roads. County Executive Jason Garnar joined the Department of Public Works Commissioner Leslie Boulton and Deputy Commissioner Sue Brown on site of the latest project to highlight the work.
“Fixing roads and bridges is always one of the top priorities for people of Broome County,” Garnar said. “We’ve heard their requests and are now committing to a historic investment in our County infrastructure. Many of these projects are long overdue and now every corner of Broome County is getting the attention it needs to make the commute of all travelers more efficient and comfortable.”
The 2021 highway reconstruction and rehabilitation plan includes more than 20 projects. Nearly 33 miles of roads will be milled and paved, while another 30 miles are scheduled to be sealed. $3.5 million is being invested into the repair of these 63 miles of roadways.
Motorists are reminded to use caution in work zones, even when they are not active as some routes may be modified as construction progresses. Slowing down is always the most effective way to keep yourself and workers safe. You may also want to give yourself extra time during commutes to accommodate for any detours or changes in traffic patterns.
