(BINGHAMTON, NY) – According to 2023 Broome County Prevention Needs Assessment data, just over 10% of Broome County youth have used a vape in the past 30 days. This troubling statistic underscores the harmful tactics employed by tobacco companies, who entice our youth with sleek designs and irresistible flavors. Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has an annual anti-tobacco awareness day called “Take Down Tobacco Day.” Each year, Take Down Tobacco Day is an opportunity for youth and community members to call for action that the tobacco industry discontinues marketing products to young people and eliminate the sale of flavored vapes, which are illegal in NYS.
Tobacco Free Broome and Tioga, alongside the Reality Check Youth Program, are excited to host a Take Down Tobacco Day Event on April 1st at the Oakdale Commons. Through thought-provoking visual displays like "Air out Tobacco’s Dirty Laundry," we'll unveil the truth behind the tobacco industry's manipulative tactics, shining a spotlight on their relentless pursuit to addict new young customers.
