(TOWN OF KIRKWOOD, NY) – The Broome County Department of Public Works has updated the construction timeline for the rehabilitation of three county-owned bridges along County Route 20 in the Town of Kirkwood. The project has been postponed due to supply chain issues and inspection oversight availability by the railroad.
The three bridges to be rehabilitated are:
- CR 20 over Susquehanna River/ Norfolk Southern Railroad (BIN 3349250)
- CR 20 over NYS&W Railroad (BIN 3349370)
- CR 20 over Main Street (Kirkwood) (BIN 3349360)
Construction is now scheduled to begin April 13, 2026, and be completed in the fall of 2026. The bridges will be completely closed to traffic June 1, 2026, through Sept 1, 2026, with traffic being detoured around the bridges during that time. Single lane closures will be intermittent from mid-April 2026 to June 1, 2026, and after September 1, 2026, until construction is completed.
All businesses, schools, and municipalities are encouraged to plan accordingly.
