(BINGHAMTON, NY) – As in past years, the Broome County Division of Solid Waste Management is offering free Christmas tree recycling options for this holiday season. Christmas trees dropped at the Landfill will be chipped and composted on the Broome County Landfill property. The compost will be made available for free to our residents in the spring for their own landscaping needs. Trees dropped at the NYSDEC location in Kirkwood will be collected and chipped as well, being used along hiking trails in parks.
Please make sure you remove all lights, tinsel, ornaments, and other decorations before dropping off trees for recycling.
The following locations offer recycling for real Christmas trees ONLY from December 26, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Faux (plastic) Christmas trees can be brought to the Broome County Landfill for disposal as regular garbage.
