(BINGHAMTON, NY) – The Broome County Suicide Prevention Coalition (BC SAFE – Broome County Suicide Awareness For Everyone), along with its partners the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Care Compass Network, will host a community event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in the Decker Room of the Broome County Public Library (185 Court Street, Binghamton).
The event will focus on suicide prevention within the LGBTQ+ community. This event is to honor both Mental Health Awareness Month in May, and Pride Month in June.
During the event, there will be facilitated conversation with a panel of experts. Members of the panel will include peers with life experience, mental health experts, and other advocates. The organizers wish to include peers, allies, advocates, caring community members, families, and loved ones. Registration is required at https://gcnybcsafe529.attendease.com.
The panel will cover what we know about suicide, up-to-date research on prevention, and what can be done to combat suicide among LGBTQ+ friends and loved ones.
Given the sensitivity of the topic, the coalition requests that attending media arrive prior to the start, or at the end of the event. Panelists and/or coalition members will be available to answer questions.
