What is pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV/ AIDS?

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medicine that people at risk for HIV can take to prevent them from getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. People of any gender or sexual orientation can take PrEP. Learn more about PrEP from New York State Department of Health or your healthcare provider.

PrEP does not protect against other STIs. Don’t forget take other steps to protect yourself from other STIs, like using a condom or getting vaccinated!
