(BROOME COUNTY, NY) – The Broome County Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services is seeking a local young person to serve on the New York State Governor’s Youth Council.
One youth, between the ages of 13 to 21, from each New York county will be chosen to advise Governor Hochul and state and local policymakers on key issues facing young people and how to solve them.
This is a great opportunity for youth in Broome County to represent our area at the state level. Those chosen will gain hands-on experience in the democratic process. Once selected, Youth Council members will convene in Albany for orientation and training and then form regional teams to focus on specific policy issues.
The State is now accepting applications from youth to serve on this council. The application includes an essay and video that will be submitted through an online portal. Applications are due July 12.
The Broome County Youth Bureau has a selection committee that will judge and choose the top three candidates to recommend to the state by July 15. The state will then decide on which youth will represent Broome County.
