State-of-the-Art Softball Complex
(BROOME COUNTY, NY) – Broome County Executive Jason Garnar joined Director of Parks, Recreation & Youth Services Brenda Gowe, and Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park Director of Operations Paige Rauch, along with other elected officials, members of the Broome County Legislature, and community members to attend the Grand Opening of Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park today of this much-anticipated complex.
Originally a four-field dirt complex known as BAGSAI, the park underwent extensive renovations totaling $4 million. The upgraded facility now features four turf fields, eight batting cages/bullpens, permanent full-capability restrooms, dugouts, bleachers, lighting, signage, a picnic area, a 500-square foot concessions area, as well as dedicated onsite parking and adjacent overflow parking.
Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park has been chosen to host the NYSPHSAA State Championships three straight years (2025 to 2027), beginning June next summer. The facility also hosts several tournaments, play days, and camps throughout the year.
“This state-of-the-art facility will not only serve our local athletes, but also will attract visitors from across the state for events like the NYSPHSAA State Championships, supporting our local businesses and economy,” said County Executive Garnar. “I look forward to the many years of sports, community, and success at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park.”
“These upgrades to the softball complex will help grow the game in our area, attract more tournaments and create a great place for families to gather,” said Broome County Legislature Chairman Dan J. Reynolds. “These improvements to the Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park are another example of the Legislature and Executive teaming up to improve our County’s parks and recreational facilities so that they continue to be great places to enjoy.”
“Softball has always been a big part of my family’s life and we have spent many weekends at this complex over the years,” said Broome County Legislator Steve Flagg. “It’s great to see all the work that has been done to the new Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park and I look forward to seeing all the use it’s going to get from families here in the area and throughout the Northeast.”
“Now that all of the major work has been completed, it’s our pleasure to officially cut the ribbon and share this beautiful facility with the public,” said Gowe, Director of Parks. “We have been busy working out all the kinks this spring and feel that we have provided an amazing complex for softball players throughout the northeast. Keep your eyes out for more upgrades as we continue to modernize and provide all the amenities for a top-notch softball experience.”
