Public Voting Propels Otsiningo Project to $25K Award
The votes are in and the Broome County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services is one of five nationwide winners of the PetSafe Bark for Your Park™ grant contest. Broome Parks will receive $25,000 to support the construction of a brand-new dog park at Otsiningo Park.
“We are extremely excited to be a winner of the PetSafe Dog Park Grant,” said Elizabeth Woidt, Director of Broome County Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services. “The community support was tremendous over the last month and we want to thank everyone who voted. Nearly 40% of households in Broome County have at least one dog and families, and we are thrilled for this project that will add a new fun and safe atmosphere for dogs to run and play off-leash.”
Broome County was one of 30 finalists throughout the country. Finalists were chosen from a panel of PetSafe® judges that scored each submission on the level of enthusiasm and support for a dog park project within the community and the impact that a dog park project will have on the community.
The Broome Parks Department will now begin working on additional site design and planning, including public info and input sessions. More information on public engagement will be shared as the project progresses.
