The Broome County Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services has closed the Greenwood Park Beach. Routine sampling of the water shows the E. coli level is above acceptable. E. coli is naturally occurring in bodies of water such as lakes and ponds and levels normally fluctuate throughout the season.
The parks department made this decision Tuesday afternoon as a protective measure. A second test of the water has been ordered.
The public will be notified when it the waterfront has been reopened.
Beaches at Nathaniel Cole Park and Dorchester Park remain open.
