Broome County Division of Security News Release

(BINGHAMTON, NY) The Broome County Division of Security today released the following information regarding the situation that occurred on Thursday, November 21, in the Broome County Office Building regularly scheduled meeting of the Broome County Legislature.

County Security officials were aware of the potential large crowd expected to attend and prepared to safely accommodate county elected officials, employees and visitors at the open, public meeting.

Law enforcement worked to maintain occupancy limits per NYS Fire Code and make sure there are adequate entrances and exits to the chambers of the Legislature.

Upon efforts to start the public meeting of the Broome County Legislature, security officials reported it became clear quickly that some attendees would not adhere to directives from the Broome County Division of Security thus creating hazards and unsafe conditions during the meeting.

Broome Security was assisted by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, Binghamton Police Department and New York State Police. Law enforcement personnel worked together to provide security in and around the Legislative Chamber and maintain order so the Legislative meeting could proceed.

A total of nine (9) arrests were made by responding law enforcement agencies.
