Safety Specialist

This is technical work involving planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and enforcing a comprehensive safety and training programs, which includes departmental standards for the protection of employees, and the public use of municipal-owned properties and facilities. The Safety Specialist ensures that all employees complete the required pre-employment and/or safety training. He/she also acts as a resource person in the inspection of facilities, work sites and work practices to ensure compliance with PESH &/or OSHA standards and other applicable state/federal safety regulations and insurance requirements. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Manager of Risk and Insurance. Does related work as required.

Broome County is seeking an experienced professional engineer to serve as the Department of Public Works Deputy Commissioner of Engineering. The Deputy Commissioner is responsible for supervising the County engineering staff who manage the design and construction of all Broome County engineering projects under the jurisdiction of Public Works. Additionally, this position consults with and advises the Commissioner, Budget Director, and other County officials in determining which capital and non-recurring repairs and replacement projects best meet the needs of the County.
The successful candidate must possess NYS PE license, and thorough knowledge of civil engineering practices and principles, with preferred experience in both design and construction administration. A good working knowledge of budgeting and financial record keeping, personnel administration, supervision, and administrative practices and controls are critical. The candidate must possess the ability to work cooperatively and effectively communicate with department staff, other department managers, and members of the public.
The Public Defender shall represent, without charge or by order of the Court with the consent of the defendant, each indigent defendant who is charged with a crime as defined by Section 722(a) of the County Law. The work involves responsibility for directing the investigation, preparation and counsel of the defendant at every stage of the proceedings following arrest and shall initiate such proceedings as are necessary to protect the rights of the accused and may prosecute any appeals if the facts and circumstances warrant such. In addition, the Public Defender may assign professional, technical and clerical personnel in the investigation, preparation, conduct and appeal in any court proceedings involving indigent defendants. The work is performed under guidelines provided by law. Does related work as required.
